INTERVIEW OF THE WEEK FAMILY BIZ ENT

COMING TO U FROM THE CHI FAMILY BIZ ENT A PRODUCTION DUO TAKING THE MIDWEST BY STORM!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

q:i know your a two man production team so where did you both get the names from

Yes we are a two man production team (Severe Garcia & Black Vegah). The name Severe came from everyone saying that I look so serious all the time hence the name Severe. And back in my heavy smoking days, you'd always catch me rollin up a GarciaVegah. Black is a name that everyone calls Black, No he's not extra darkskinned, dark, but not Black. Vegah is the other half of Garcia, LOL. Damn, we starting off wit tuff to answer questions, lol. Severe Garcia and Black Vegah just stuck to us dammit!!! LOL.

q:what brought you to rocbattle

Actually my who moved to Atlanta to pursue music was a member, and told us about it when we went to Atlanta in pursuit of our first placement. When we made it back to Chicago, I called him, asked him for the link and signed up. Said it would make me want to step my game up after the first time we got our asses whupped... He most certainly was right! Shout out to the home Mike B. Not gonna put the full name out, but good lookin!!

q:how long have you been at the beats?

Since about 2001.

q:what made you start?

Garcia started off as a emcee, and needed instrumentals to rap over. Wasn't really familiar with computers and downloading of finding instrumentals then, I was always curious about how they were made, so when I was in college and a few of my homeboys bought a keyboard/synthesizer, I was intrigued and started to flirt with production. I didn't get my first equipment until 2001 Which was a wack Korg Triton (Fell for the touch screen, it was eazy). Little did I know the sounds were cheezy IMO.

q: whats your inspiration ?

Our inspiration is everyday life, beautiful music and striving to make Family Biz Ent. a household name, like Jordan's are for gym shoes, LOL. It hasn't been easy, we haven't expected it to be either. And still have a ways to go, but as long as we live to see it, we'll get there. (Garcia) My son is also added to the inspiration. Shout out to the single parent fathers!!

q:what do you feel you can bring to the table of production?

Great ideas, top quality, originality, style (I'd hate to say swagg, but.... swagg). I mean I look at it like this, we plan to be that brand that your just learning about that exceeds all possible limitations that people put on you when your still no one. I look at it like this, I enjoy this grind, and I definitely see the Big Picture, the finish line is ahead (But like Forrest, we'll keep running!!)

q:what is your main goal with production?

Our goal as a production is this and simply this. To spend the rest of our lifes doing something that I love to do. Now if it gets to the point where we are able to support our families, then great, I mean, who dosen't want that. Who wouldn't like to be paid for what they love to do? This is definitely more than a hobby, Music is life for us, so we definitely would love to be able to continue to do music and be compensated financially from it. But don't get us wrong, we do it for the love.

q:are you mainly software based or hardware based?

Starting off we were definitely hardware based producer, MPC 2000XL, Korg Triton, Roland Fantom, nowadays we pretty much stick to Logic and Reason 4.0. Always willing to flirt with other softwares and hardware, but Logic seems to be the pimp of em all in our opinion. Still we don't think it's the equipment that you have, it really comes down to do you know how to use what it is that you do have.

q:what is your fave piece of equipment /program ?

Logic 9. LOGIC GANG ALL DAY!!!

q:what projects or artists are you working with or on right now?

Well for those who don't know Severe Garcia (1/2 of the production team of F.B.E.) is also a artist. So first and foremost were focusing on the first album which we are taking our time on, have pushed back due to lack of time to record vocals and focusing more on production, but you can expect that to be out mid November. Also as many of you know, I work with Lyriq and Commando when they're back in town from Atlanta so I do what I can to help those guys out. Be on the lookout for B.X.C. from Ludacris's Disturbing Tha Peace. Most of you have seen them on my live stream before. Other than that, we are woking on releasing our 2nd Family Biz Ent mixtape which is still untitled. Look out for FBE artists such as Garcia, Deezy, 3rd Supreme, Jilla, Loyal T, and Spear.

q:who do you want to work with ?

We'd like to work with anyone who would like to work with Family Biz Ent that we could learn knowledge from and who could possibly learn something from us as well. If your talking major artists, Jay-Z, Nas, Common, Kanye, Lil Wayne, Drake, T.I., Beyonce, Ludacris, the list is endless. If your talking producers, then Quincy Jones, Rockwilder, Rodney Jerkins, Darkchild, Shawty Redd. If your talking Rocbattle producers... Boon Doc, Fabe, Macfire, Youngfyre, Breeze, Chysty, Cartoon, Canei, and many more. Some of the named above there have already been collabs. I hate these questions cause you always leaving somebody out who you meant to say.... Well and um.... __________ (insert your name here) LOL.

q:what do you feel is your strongest genre?

For Severe Garcia probably Hip Hop, For Black Vegah, probably Dirty South/Rnb. That's just our opinion, but we'll let everyone else be the judge of what are "strongest" genre is. We strive to be versatile and always bring something you didn't expect from us.

q:which mainstream beat made you say " i shoulda made that ?"

Honestly (your gonna hate this answer) None of them, but we are definitely sitting on some "mainstream" tracks that just haven't reached the right ears. Honestly we don't "try" to emulate anyone's production. If it comes out and seems that way, well fuk it, it is what it is, I guess great minds think alike, but it's never a "Real" producer's intention to sound like another producer, well we can only speak for ourselves.

q:when you create what do you like to start with first , melody, bassline drums?

Majority of the time we start with some melody, just playing some keys until we accidently play something that we think we can build something around and take it from there, but some have started with drums as well. Sometimes "dummy" drums are laid down cause I hate the tempo click so much, lol. Then we'll come back and replace the drums once the melody is right.

q:who or what do you feel influenced you to jump into the production game?

Curiosity and Great musicians. We've always loved music, just the interest in finding out how a track was put together from scratch, or how a sample was chopped to sound how it does. That curiosity built into love. Producing is addictive, it's our biggest drug. (Garcia) "Also the fact that I emcee, and I didn't have producers around me or anything to make beats for me, so once I found out you don't have to have a million dollar studio to make great music, I did my homework and found that if I invest we invest in ourselves, put in some work, study the greats, then possibly this is something that I might be good at. Still not where I wanna be, but I believe I improve by the day, as an artist and a producer.

q:do you have any links to your completed works with artists already on it ?

Yes we do. You can check them out at http://www.FamilyBizEntbeats.com. ; Click on Mixtape's and there are some songs there. Or you can go to beats and check out some of the best productions from Family Biz Ent.

q:name your starting 5 rocbattle producers..

Ok, so we're gonna be a lil cocky on this one, LOL

1. Family Biz Ent.
2. Chysty Productionz
3. Boon Doc
4. Youngfyre
5. Canei
6. Macfire
I had to put 6 since we included ourselves, so what we cheated, LOL. Nah, but it's too many good producers on here to really put in a top 5 or 10 in our opinion. I respect alot of dudes on the site, and respect the work that they have come to let me hear. Fabe and Breeze should be on that list also. Too many to name honestly.

q: what do you think sets you apart from everyone else?

Not really sure only because you can say things like "We don't sleep" but there's another producer somewhere in the world who dosen't sleep just like us. Or "we study the greats", or Our shit sounds so different from, blah blah. Fuk that, It's just as many producers nowadays as it is artists which makes it hard even for the "good" producers to be recognized, so we strive to be great. If we honestly had to say what sets us apart, it would be that we're improving, still learning by the day. Not that we don't know what we're doing, but I think some producers get content when they reach a certain level of "hot". Make a few hot beats and you think "Im good for awhile". I get up and grind everyday like I ain't make shit yesterday! Real talk, I don't think I can ever stop learning so when you have that attitude, I believe you allow yourself to constantly get better, and you will continue to exceed your previous work. Remember your only as good as your last hit. So for us "unsigned" producers, your only as good as your last "Hot" beat. And for some, it's been a min. For others who grind like we do, we can tell. Simple as that, no disrespect or anything. But some people are good at certain things and "limit" themselves by staying in that same lane. For instance, if your good and drums, why not work on your melodies and visa versa. We constantly try to improve on what "we" feel we could be better in.

q: top 5 mainstream producers new or old?

I'm going to say

1. Quincy Jones (The man writes music... Jesus!!!)
2. Dr. Dre
3. Pete Rock
4. Jay Dilla
5. Rodney Jerkins

Of course there's more, but Im satisfied with this five.

q: where you reppin from ?

Residing from The Wicked Windy City of Chicago!!! South Side All Day Ya Dig, got love for all over in Chi, Westside, hunnids, east, Burbs get love as well!

q: do you prefer selling on rocbattle or hitting the streets?

I prefer hitting the streets. Thing is with rocbattle and other websites, you have to bring your prices down so low to get a sale just because your competing with other producers. Honestly, I think ALL WEBSITES selling music should have a minimum, but since this is something we'll probably never be able to control, I suggest you make your money from rocbattle and "invest in yourself" by getting "your own" website and sell your music there. PERFECT TIME FOR FREE PROMO http://www.FamilyBizEntbeats.com

q: aside from producing what do you do in your spare time?

Enjoy raising my son, kick it with my family, playing basketball, football, baseball (OK YALL KNOW WE ATHLETIC, LOL), watching movies, having a cocktail (I Prefer Patron), Taking a nice young woman into my bedroom and um... oh, keep it professional, Um, Shooting Pool, bowling, Shooting Dice (7-11 Nigguh!!!), Video games, Yall ain't trying to see me on no online sports games. Madden, 2k, Call of Duty u gettin merked also!!! PM me for my PS3 gamertag and Xbox360 jumpoffs, lol.

q: how would you describe your sound?

Soulful, artistic, clean, nice, Radio Ready, Industry Ready, lol. We'll let you all be the judges, we just enjoy what we do. I appreciate those who like our sound, and to those who don't... Well you cant please everybody anyway, so continue doing you, and we will continue to do us.

q:what is the best way to contact you ? Im always on aim (familybizent), Also familybizent@aol.com. Celly available upon request depending on who you are. And http://www.FamilyBizEntbeats.com (Severe Garcia album coming soon, titled Weight Of The World!!!!!!!)

q:do you have your own website ?

Its funny that you asked..... FUK U MEAN? FUM ALL DAY, SHOT OUT TO THE FUMLY!!! OH, let me answer the question

q:what are some deals you have on beats ?

Well actually right now for the month of September, we have buy 3 beats ($25/beat), and get 2 free. Im sure it's not better than Chysty's Buy 5 get 5 free, or some of the other deals you guys have that are ridiculous! But we think our production is worth it. Honestly I think everyone's production is worth more than $10.00 even Non Exclusively. If your serious about your music, then the price shouldn't be bad, it's still recession proof, LOL. Holla at the email, or join our mailing list and email us for prices on Exclusive beats.

q:anything youd like to let other producers who are just starting know?

Grind, anything you put your time and effort into you can only get better at it. If Michael Jordan only shot a few jumpers a day, Im sure he wouldn't be where he was. So u get where that message was going, I don't think I have to explain that. MYA @THE KENNEL ON 08042009 HIGHLIGHTS

Mya came through TO THA KENNEL !

Mya came through to THA KENNEL, and we found out she is an incredibly hard worker.
Mya has an MPC 4000, and knows how to operate PRO TOOLS! PRO TOOLS!
Brings her own mic to the session, and I heard a rumor, she makes BEATS!
Mya is a very down to Earth, beautiful, talented, young lady.

Mya has worked with many in the industry, and gave a very interesting look into her past and how she got her start. She was auditioned after school to University Music Entertainment president Haqq Islam at the age of 15, which later led to her signing with Interscope.

If you didn't know MYA can tap, she saw Savion Glover at 10 years old, and fell in love with the dance. She began tapping with him, and loved it ever since.

When asked about the Entertainment business, she stated "YOU CAN NEVER LOSE WITH REAL MUSIC" I couldn't agree more.

She saw her father singing in church, "I Want to Thank You God", and it inspired her at 4 years old to want to become a singer. She was unsigned when she released her first album.

SHE IS ALSO LOOKING FOR TRACKS, so please email them directly to rockwildersubs@gmail.com , c./o MYA , these go directly to Rockwilder ,
